Manoeuvring motorcycles over dilapidated bridges, crossing rivers with the GS and changing tyres in a hurry: the International GS Trophy is an enduro challenge like no other. In 2016 it was time for the event once again. 19 teams from all over the world rode their BMW R 1200 GS motorcycles across northern Thailand. The GS riders conquered 1,400 kilometres, 19 special tests and seven daily stages. They crossed jungles, dams and rain forests, enduring brutal heat and high humidity.
The sixth International GS Trophy left them physically exhausted but satisfied in every other respect. 'The sixth edition of the International GS Trophy was not for the faint of heart: teams had to endure seven days full of special challenges and highly intense daily stages in temperatures of over 30 degrees.
These included exhausting river crossings, arduous journeys through mountainous regions and difficult agility challenges.' The competition was tough and exciting from beginning to end,' remarked Heiner Faust, Head of Sales and Marketing at BMW Motorrad.
And he was not exaggerating: The Int. GS Trophy 2016 was quite something. Challenges with names like 'Broken Bridge', 'Pit Stop', and 'Helicopter Pad', only hint at the kind of demanding tasks facing the participants.Over the seven days, GS riders had to complete a total of 19 tests, all requiring riding skills, agility and team spirit. But the special tests were not the only reasons for participants to break out in a sweat. Temperatures of over 30°C brought to mind the 2010 Int. GS Trophy in South Africa.
Together with the high humidity of Southeast Asia, it was among our hottest events ever. Always pushing to the limit and in search of the ideal line, you've got 205 HP beneath you.

Ten years after the first generation of the RR first mesmerized the world of motorcycles, we're now entering the next level of performance. We have updated almost every component of the RR - from the front to the rear. The result: less weight and noticeably higher performance.
Are you ready for the pole position and for victory? The RR awaits you. Each tour is determined by two factors: time and distance. With the new BMW R 1250 RS you can get more out of every tour. However, the lakes that become frozen over open up many new opportunities for riders, such as Robert, who's 25.

In order for those affected to be helped immediately, BMW Motorrad has developed the 'intelligent emergency call' (ECALL) optional accessory. The 'intelligent emergency call' automatically contacts the BMW call centre in case of an accident to activate the chain of rescue as quickly as possible and – if possible – to establish initial contact with the victim. In addition, the system can also be activated manually. The use of ECALL systems like these has been proven to enable the emergency services to reach the accident location more quickly.

In 2013, BMW Motorrad celebrated the 40th birthday of a real icon: the BMW R 90 S. With a top speed of almost 200 km/h, it was one of the fastest motorcycles of its time. This was facilitated by what was at the time a revolutionary innovation; never before had a designer contributed to the development of a motorcycle.
Yet it was precisely this that let to the pioneering front trim panel on the BMW R 90 S. Which was also available as standard for the first time.
Soon, other manufacturers would follow suit and develop an aerodynamically optimised front and rear trim. Something like this only happens if you really have petrol in your blood and an insatiable appetite for tarmac: 24 mix-and-match petrolheads saw the 1/8 mile at the atmospheric Glemseck 101 merely as a warm-up round for a trip to the United Kingdom. From the province they headed straight on to London. The destination of this journey comprising over 1,222 kilometres: the legendary Ace Cafe – itself a founding member of the Glemseck 101 event. At this almost magical place, the traditional Ace Cafe reunion awaits the participants of the Continental Run. In brief: the party picked up right where it left off.

Discover what lies over the horizon. In an age before email, the internet, smartphones and satnavs – and in an age when women hardly ever travelled alone to adventurous countries – Elspeth achieved something that is still remarkable today.
Thirty-five years after she set off on her 35,000 miles (56,000 km) adventure on her 1974 BMW R 60/6, the first British woman to motorcycle around the world has finally published ‘Lone Rider’, a book about her travels — a global journey that has inspired countless adventure riders to attempt their own long-distance trips.
You can't lift a 238-kilo motorcycle over a tree trunk by yourself. And that was actually the whole point. The teams had to demonstrate what team spirit means.
Pulling the GS on a gravel road in the scorching heat. This challenge pushed the teams to their limits.
But the riders didn't give up and instead joined forces to pull the heavily loaded bike on the bumpy path. The extreme challenges that the riders experienced in Thailand brought them closer together. They forged a community and friendships that will endure beyond their shared adventure. Participants hailed from every corner of the earth and met for the first time at the Int. But from the very beginning, this enduro adventure enjoyed an extremely supportive atmosphere.

I´ve just broken in my new BMW GS helmet. Great helmet, by the way. BMW marketing department claim the helmet is 'prepared for the BMW Communication System' which is now what I am considering. The Spec Sheet they (BMW) sent me, however, states that they are using 'Bluetooth Standard: 2.0 and 2.5'. My question is, hos can they use such old technology standards in a 'new' product? Especially since it doesnt appear to be upgradable.Does anyone here have experience or relevant input on the subject BMW Communication Systems then I´d love to hear it!PS. The reason for my interest in this particular Bluetooth System, is that it is designed to be contained inside the helmet, without mounting a big unit on the helmet exterior.Cheers,MB. I am debating getting one of these helmets as well, not a lot out there yet to get some decent reviews.
I have a BMW Enduro helmet, which I love. Light weight and very comfortable. It was terrible in the rain though, not a good seal when the visor was closed. How do you find this helmet? Does it seal up nice and tight with the visor closed? I was told it is even lighter then the Enduro helmet. Which is hard to believe as I have never felt a helmet so light.I like the communication system with it, looks very small and part of the helmet, though I have yet to see one actually installed in the helmet. Click to expand.Thats exactly right the new helmet is a bit heavier than the old. It´s a mad mad world.I have elected not to buy the BMW Communication System. Their software is OLD and it is not upgradable. Makes no sense, but it looks like BMW is trying to re-wrap and antiquated Bluetooth system with a new control panel.
I´m not impressed.I think, instead, that the smallest Sena unit will provide a much better solution, even if the small control unit will sit outside the shell, instead of BMW´s built-in solution. But buying a 2.0 Bluetooth system at a premium price, just to get the integrated buttons, seem like a bad deal. Thats exactly right the new helmet is a bit heavier than the old. The 20S is a bit too big to mount anywhere on this helmet, and with all the curves hard to even use the glue-on mount. I think I am going to give the Sena 3S a try on this helmet.
